Umuahia is the place to be as FC Ifeanyi Ubah takes a short trip to Battle Abia Warriors, while Calabar is the venue on Sunday when league heavyweights Enyimba and Kano Pillars meet in a mouth-watering Nigerian PFL Round 32 fixture. There are also south west, north central and south east derbies on an action-packed day.
*Enyimba vs. Kano Pillars
Enyimba and Kano Pillars are set to light up the UJ Esuene stadium in Calabar, in what is clearly the standout fixture of the round.
Impressively, these two teams have won five of the last seven domestic league titles. In this encounter, 4th-placed Enyimba have it all to play for as they attempt to mount a late title challenge. That said, earning a continental ticket seems to be the more realistic target with seven games remaining of the season.
Kano, currently 10th on the log, won the reverse fixture in Kano, but they face an uphill task this time around as Enyimba have averaged three goals per game in their last three home fixtures.
*Abia Warriors vs. FC Ifeanyi Ubah*
The south east 'Oriental' derby comes to town in Umuahia when 14th-placed Abia Warriors host the nouveau riche of Nigerian football, FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
The away team will hope to have top scorer Godwin Obaje back firing on all cylinders in their bid to improve on fifth-place.
Considering Abia are winless in three successive league games, and the last four meetings between the pair have all ended in draws, we shouldn't rule out the teams earning a share of the spoils. This match is definitely the favorite for show stealer of the week.
*Remo Stars vs. MFM FC*
Rock-bottom Remo Stars welcome MFM FC to Sagamu in the south west derby, a game the visiting team should fancy winning to avoid the three-point gap at the top further widening.
As it happens, the church-sponsored team appear to have the mojo for south west derbies, earning four of six away points gained this season in such encounters.
Worryingly, MFM have lost all five away fixtures in the second round of the league, scoring just two goals on the road in that time, and they could be put to test against a Remo side who are winless in seven matches.
*Enugu Rangers vs. Rivers United*
Enugu Rangers and Rivers United clash in a game of relegation battlers in Enugu, a contrasting to last season when both teams occupied the top two spots on the log.
Enugu occupy the last relegation spot on the 20-team table, while Rivers are five spots but only two points better off than the Flying Antelopes.
Matches between the pair have usually produced an average of three goals, but it remains to be seen if the trend will be replicated in Sylvanus Okpala's debut in-charge of the hosts, for who his job is a simple rescue mission.
*Plateau United vs. Shooting Stars*
Hosts Plateau United should make light work of 16th-placed Shooting Stars in Jos, as they bid to extend a three-point lead at the top of the table.
Kennedy Boboye's team have led the log for virtually the entire season, but he should caution his charges about complacency against a Shooting Stars team who have drawn their last two away matches.
*El Kanemi Warriors vs. Akwa United*
Seventh-placed El Kanemi Warriors, who have suffered a dip in-form in the second round of the league, host high-flying Akwa United.
It will be interesting to see if the game has come a bit too soon for third-placed Akwa, who were involved in another away game a few days ago in Port Harcourt.
Apart from that fact, the 'Promise Keepers' will also need to dig deep against El Kanemi because they have dropped just two points on home turf this season. Should they get the result, they will keep the pressure on those at the top.
*Wikki Tourists vs. Sunshine Stars*
Sunshine Stars will be in confident mood when they travel to Bauchi to face Wikki Tourists, in a game both teams desperately require maximum points from to pull further clear of the dreaded drop zone.
Sunshine have won their last two away matches to move up to 11th place in the standings. If they sustain that impressive momentum against their hosts the Akure-based team could compound the woes of 15th-placed Wikki who will slip into the bottom four on the table - that, despite being unbeaten at home this season!
Other games to be played include 19th Place *Gombe United* set to welcome *Lobi Stars* to the Pantami Stadium, *Katsina United* vs *ABS FC* at the Karkarnda stadium and *Nasarawa United* doing Battle with *Niger Tornadoes* in a cracking north central derby at the lafia city stadium in #MD32 of the Nigerian PFL filled with a couple of exciting derbies.
