High-flying Plateau United extended their
lead on top of the Nigeria Professional
Football League table to four points after a
comfortable 2-0 win over El-Kanemi
Warriors in Jos on Wednesday.
Playing in front of the governor of Plateau
State, Solomon Lalong at the Rwang Pam
Stadium, United went ahead in the 12th
minute through Beninoise defender, Salomon
Junior who headed home Daniel Itodo's long
throw-in.
The Kennedy Boboye-led side wrapped up
victory one minute before the break through
Jimmy Ambrose whose 35-metre effort
caught Warriors goalkeeper Kazeem Yekeen
napping. Victory takes United to 17 points
from seven games.
Third-placed Abia Warriors were denied a
chance to move into second place by their
bogey team, Sunshine Stars in Umuahia.
The visitors who have won in the duo's last
three encounters stunned their hosts just
before half time through Joseph Abiodun's
goal but Nigeria's Olympic star, Ndifreke
Effiong equalized for Warriors at the restart.
In Sagamu, winger Chidiebere Ajoku scored
his fourth goal in as many matches to give
Niger Tornadoes a 1-0 away win over newly
promoted Remo Stars. Ebenezer Odeyemi
once again provided the assist for Ajoku
whose goal provisionally lifts Tornadoes to
10th on the log.
It was Tornadoes' first away win in Nigeria's
top flight since June 2011 when they beat
ABS FC in Ilorin.
Gombe United left it late to secure a 1-0 win
over Nasarawa United at the Pantami
Stadium. Austine Oladapo's 83rd minute goal
was all the Manu Garba led side needed to
break Nasarawa's obstinate defence.
With four matches put off this midweek due
to this weekend's continental engagements,
two more Matchday 7 fixtures will hold on
Thursday. Enyimba will host Akwa United in
Calabar while ABS FC will entertain MFM in
Ilorin.
