There were 19 goals across all
centres in Matchday three of
the Nigeria Professional
Football League on Sunday,
with Stephen Odey stealing the
show with a hat-trick for MFM
FC in their 4-0 thrashing of
visiting Lobi Stars.
MFM FC recovered from the
4-0 thrashing they received in
the hands of FC Ifeanyiubah
on Wednesday by thrashing
Lobi Stars by same scoreline,
thanks to a hat-trick from
Stephen Odey, scored in the
27th, 59th and 63rd minute
respectively, with his last strike
coming after a goal from
substitute Tchato Giscard in
the 62nd minute.
However the first goal of the
matchday was scored in Ilorin
by Chigozirim Metu who
tucked home the rebound
from Adeshina Gata's well hit
drive to give ABS FC a 1-0 win
over FC Ifeanyiubah.
Champions Rangers
International laboured to a 1-0
win over a resolute El-Kanemi
Warriors team, with Bobby
Clement scoring the lone goal
of the game in the 67th minute
to hand them their first win of
the season, after a loss and a
draw in their opening two
games.
Shooting Stars shocked home
side Kano Pillars when Adigun
Adewale gave them the lead
three minutes from the half
time break, but Pillars first half
substitute Adamu Mohammed
fired a brace with goals in the
48th minute and on the dot of
regulation time to hand Kano
Pillars a 2-1 win.
Harrison Madu's headed goal
from a delivery by Chukwudi
Samuel in the 82nd minutes
helped Wikki Tourists beat
Akwa United 1-0 to record
their first win of the three
games old league.
In Jos, Benjamin Turba beat
the offside trap to finish off a
through-ball from Lazarus Fan
to give Plateau United a 1-0
lead going into the half time
break against Sunshine Stars,
who had Ayo Saka sent off for
two bookable offences within a
space of two minutes.
Things got worst for Sunshine
Stars when Kabiru Umar
finished off a perfect cross
from Oghene Elijah in the 70th
minute to double the
advantage for Plateau United,
before Emeka Umeh came off
the bench to score the third
for Plateau Utd on 80 minutes.
Sunshine Stars, however, got a
late consolation goal scored by
Alaba Adeniyi.
The win helped the Kennedy
Boboye's team to maintain
their perfect start to the
season with three wins in their
opening three games of the
season.
In Port Harcourt high-flying
Rivers United maintained their
unbeaten run with a slim 1-0
win over Niger Tornadoes
thanks to Guy Kuemian low
finish from a pass from
Lukman Mohammed in the
20th minute.
Enyimba picked up all three
points in Calabar by beating
hard-fighting Gombe United
2-0, thanks to a goal from
Ibrahim Mustapha who
diverted a cut back from Dare
Ojo in the 65th minute and a
penalty from Mfon Udoh after
Ola Ogundele handled in the
box of the visitors.
NPFL newcomers Katsina
United needed an 80th minute
goal from Suleman Musa to
pick up all three points at
home against Nasarawa
United, who are still searching
for their first win after three
games.
Another newly promoted team
Remo Stars were made to
suffer for all three points
against Abia Warriors in
Sagamu, as the away side held
them until the 90th minute
when Victor Mbaoma
converted from the spot to
hand them a 1-0 win following
a dramatic ball handling
incident in the box of the Aba
boys.
The result ended Abia Warriors
100% start to the season after
two wins, and by extension it
was their first loss in eight
matches.
