Human beings by nature cherish the
feeling and idea of being in love with
a significant other. This goes to
explain why many songs released by
Nigerian artists have the theme of
the song centred on love, coming
with different twists - from
heartbreak, kissing and making up,
to the times when the going was
good in a relationship.
Though there are other impressive
love songs that were released over
the course of 2016, Pulse Music has
settled with these 10 for the
lovebirds and romantics at heart out
there.
Niniola, Johnny Drille - Start all
over »
This song by two fast emerging
artists was a pair match made in
heaven collaboration. What seemed
like it was going to be a regular love
song turns out to be almost
something out of a fairytale. Niniola
mixing the Yoruba tongue with the
English language on the song hook
simply gave forth something magical
and special. Johnny Drille who is no
stranger to love songs referencing
one of his adorable songs ‘My
beautiful love’ gave his best on the
duet.
Ric Hassani - Police »
Hassani who has made waves with
his ‘Gentleman’ song came up with
this beautiful tune dedicated to a
lover, whom he professes a sweet
undying love for. Ric’s voice on the
instrumental complements so good
you wouldn’t want the song to end
so soon.
Mr Eazi - Anointing » ft Sarkodie
Freshman Eazi could easily be
described as a new school lover boy
as most of his songs place emphasis
on the ladies. Following the
footsteps of ‘Skin tight’, the Next
rated nominee cooked up this fine
ballad creatively using the word
‘Anointing’ to describe what his lady
feels being with him. Gifted rapper
Sarkodie complements on the rap
side of things.
Mystro - Work » (Summer girl)
The talented music maestro dashes
into another realm as he sings his
heart out on this record. He sure
knows how to work up those songs
as we see in ‘Awele’, an equally
amazing love song. More impressive
is the fact that he self-produced the
melodious tune. Mystro is
responsible for production on the
love songs of other artistes including
Iyanya’s ‘Heartbeat’, and Tonye’s
‘Written in the stars’ among others.

Newly signed to TripleMG record
label in 2016, Tonye launched her
signing with this beauty of a song,
with this one having a lower tempo
feel than her 2014 hit love song
‘Criminal’. Tonye mixes well her local
lingua with the English language on
the song.
Banky W - Made for you »
The self-acclaimed King of R&B
drops one of the most romantic
songs and matching video in ‘Made
for you’. Very few people know how
to write a love song like the Mr
Capable. The likes of ‘Don’t break my
heart’, and ‘Yes or no’ attests to this.
‘Made for you’ is the ideal song for
proposing to your lady.
Odunsi - Farabale » ft Dami
Oniru
Off his “Time of our lives” EP,
released 2016, Odunsi “the engine”
showed he’s not only a talented
producer but a fantastic singer as
well. Enlisting a female voice to
complement his vocals, the song
‘Farabale’ is a winner.
Tjan- Aduke »
The official Nigerian proposal theme
song of 2016 if we may say so
ourselves. Tjan banks on the
promise of Cobhams Asuquo’s
stellar production for this beautifully
composed tune, a ready to go song
to walk your woman down the aisle.
Simi - Love don’t care »
The Xtreme music songbird in this
record preaches love and the power
of the four letter word to break any
barrier specifically referencing ethnic
differences. The singer speaks out
the mind of people involved in such
type of relationship.
Flavour - Obianuju »
Steering away from the needless
controversy of the video for this
song, Flavour knows how to
serenade a woman - Even so well in
his mother tongue, he plugs in the
right words backed by great
production to create the best work
of art in ‘Obianuju’. His earlier love
songs ‘Ada Ada’ and ‘Gollibe’ among
others supports this claim.
